New research presented at the MYOB Discover Live conference in Sydney highlights the critical role mid-sized businesses play in advancing New Zealand’s productivity and economic goals. That’s something we see firsthand among our clients, for two very simple reasons: the midsize has economic and human resources, and the midsize isn’t sandbagged by slower and distributed decision making.
The research is MYOB’s ‘Bigger Picture’ report, and I encourage you to download it and have a read.
These factors are arguably crucial in the current economic and ‘technological’ circumstances, if I can put it that way. AI is on the rise one the one hand, while times are tough on the other. There’s adversity, given the state of the economy. But the AI stuff means there’s opportunity at the same time.
The midsize is defined by MYOB as having 20-500 full-time employees and annual revenue exceeding $5 million. These organisations are increasingly leveraging automation, strengthening supply chains, and expanding their capabilities. And in our experience, they’re doing this with MYOB Acumatica at the core.
That’s what made MYOB Discover Live so impactful, because it confirmed what we at Avanza Solutions are seeing ‘on the ground’, but at much larger scale. It’s often said that it is the ‘small’ company behind economic growth, particularly in New Zealand, and that’s a position backed by the simple fact that almost every business starts small. Of course, then, distribution will tend towards that side (MBIE says 97% of local companies have fewer than 20 employees).
While these companies matter, the reality is that real impact is achieved when these fledglings spread their wings – which many eventually do. That’s where the combination of sufficient revenue for investment with the agility to implement changes swiftly, builds momentum. By adopting automation, artificial intelligence, and sustainable practices, these businesses are maximizing their inherent advantages and responding effectively to emerging opportunities.
We’ve seen the results with clients like Camex Civil, which has improved operations through better technology (more about Camex in a moment!)
Coming back to the conference, yes, AI is on the agenda (where is it not!) MYOB Acumatica is getting new features including AI Automation, AI Advisor, and AI Assistant, which are developed in collaboration with Thoughtworks and AWS. Set to roll out in 2025, these tools aim to streamline repetitive administrative tasks, boosting efficiency.
All that positions MYOB Acumatica as a leader in mid-enterprise ERP, delivering solutions that support smarter, faster growth.
The event also recognized achievements within the MYOB Acumatica community. The iStart ERP Buyer’s Guide 2025-26 named MYOB Acumatica the top ERP choice for businesses across ANZ, based on vendor-reported installed bases.
And a bit of a trumpet-blow: Avanza Solutions was a finalist for the Customer Excellence Award, while Kyla Lambly, General Manager of Finance at Camex Civil, was a finalist for both the Woman in Tech and Business of the Year awards.
In fact, Kyla even shared her experience with MYOB Acumatica a dedicated construction session, noting its transformative impact.
As we look ahead, to 2025, I’m excited about the midmarket. And as always, our team is committed to helping you get the most from your ERP investments, combining people power with emerging AI capabilities. Good for you, good for us, good for New Zealand.
